Michael Cho Best American Comics 2010 Cover

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

Wow, this was a big one for me.  I saw this last year on Cho’s website and really wanted to buy it.  The first opportunity I had was at Fan Expo 2010 and when I arrived at his table he said it was sold; someone was buying it as a gift for Gaiman.  Some months passed and I was shocked to see it in Cho’s portfolio for sale at Toronto ComiCON 2011: apparently the deal had fell through and he had it available again.  I had already committed to the Green Lantern cover so I couldn’t get this piece but then TCAF 2011 rolled around, I had the cash and Cho still had it!

Paul Pope TCAF 2011 Sketches

I was able to get two Paul Pope sketches at TCAF 2011.  They were quick free sketches and were greatly appreciated.

Michael Cho Happy Holidays sketch

This one circulated the comics web over the 2009 holidays and was an instant classic.  I spotted the original artwork in Michael’s book at TCAF and got it for a song.

Michael Cho Captain America sketch

My second TCAF piece from Michael Cho and my first full colour work from him.  I’m really on the fence about single versus full colour but I love the Kirby-esque fist coming at you.

Michael Cho Thor sketch

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Picked up three pieces of artwork at TCAF this month, all from Michael Cho.  He wasn’t sketching but did bring along a large amount of finished work; this is the one that caught my eye straight off.  I love his inked with single colour style and this Thor really shows it off.  His prices are going up every year but that’s the same across the board for original artwork and to be fair these are larger than what he was doing last year and using gouache and ink instead of marker: it’s a cleaner finished product that really shines.
