Second Tommy Lee Edwards Question cover

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Another gem from the NYCC: my second Tommy Lee Edwards The Question cover.  I really enjoy the style and feel of these covers.  I asked him if there would be another Toronto convention appearance but it soundn’t like it wouldn’t happen.

Tony Harris pages

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

Picked up three more Tony Harris pages at NYCC.  I’m a big fan of blacks and different page arrangements.  I was glad to have a Harris Iron Man page since that was where he started his current art style.  I finally found him at his booth on Sunday morning and went through a big pile of pages trying to choose what I could afford to buy.  He’s very friendly but wouldn’t commit to a Toronto con appearance this summer.

Olivier Coipel Avengers pages

Monday, March 19th, 2007

More treasures from New York.  Two consecutive Coipel Avengers pages: I liked the quality of the work and the price was right.  The Artist’s Choice art dealer was set up in Artist Alley at the NYCC so I picked up a few gems.  They had a lot of reasonably priced material at the show; wish I could say the same for the Albert Moy and Graphic Collectibles booths.

2007 New York Comic Convention

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

I attended the NYCC last month. It was mostly a big budget affair with about twenty comic dealers selling expensive books. Lots of corporate presence everywhere. Artist alley was in a separate section and was well stocked. About half the artists appeared at some point Friday night, but I did catch the full group on Sunday and picked up a bunch of pages. As well major art dealers were present, and while most pages were high end I did get some deals.

Darwyn Cooke New Frontier page

I finally acquired a Darwyn Cooke page.  Even though he hasn’t done a lot of work Darwyn’s pages are ni the high end of the page price range.  I have yet to see a single page show up on eBay.

John Paul Leon Galactus Sketch

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Back from the 2007 New York Comic Convention.  I arrived early on Friday and J.P. Leon was the first artist I saw that I wanted a sketch from.  He inks all convention commissions and has a very dark style that I really enjoy.
